Or, with modern software, just shut down.  MacOS 7.6, Open Transport, and
OT/PPP conspire very nicely to drop the PPP connection cleanly on shutdown
or restart.  I forget now whether 7.5.5, OT, and OT/PPP was the same...I
think so.  The timing is right...the connection is dropped after
applications have quit (and therefore if one of them fails to quit, the
connection stays up).
