Here at the paper, we've got multiple mainframe/pc/mac systems, all patched
together so that we can move stories/files around. A lot of times the
programmer's on the other end can't figure out/don't want to spend the time
to prep files the way we need them to be, so I use Perl to process the
files before we load them up to the WWW.

Our classifieds are pre-processed with MacPerl (basically a lot of regular
expressions/search replace) and then ftp'd via Anarchie up to the server on
a daily basis, and it takes about 15 minutes to do the whole entire process
(<1min for the MacPerl portion). It's a drag -n- drop operation, so it's
pretty brainless.

On the news content side, each story is transferred over to the mac
network, and then cleaned up and HTML-ized by MacPerl, and then uploaded
via a browser.

I also use Perl on our NT Webserver (not my choice) to do an HTTP
connection to the websever to make sure the !#$#@# thing stays up and
reboots it when it's not.
