Dear MacPerl members: I need to write a script that go through a folder (my website) and change all file names and internal links to the DOS 8.3 scheme. I'm thinking to make it general so others can use it (possibly other OS, but I won't go berserk on that (^_^)). The need is that to publish a site on CD, it's "best" to make it completely 8.3 because Windows 3.x machines can't access internal links that's not 8.3. (if any one has more info about this, please let me know. Thanks.) My question is: are there existing scripts? Here's the gory plan: The script will read in a text file consisting of lines like "this is a long file Name" "longFile.txt" This will let human choose good names. I'd like to have the feature so that file names can be generated algorithmically if desired. For this I'll need ideas on such algorithms. (perhaps there are already popular ones) Lastly I need standard extension mappings... please email privatly if appropriate. Thanks. I'm really against this idea, especially in a Mac community. Any opinions? ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
