That's interesting. I would personally never have thought to start research into Perl platforms at the O'Reilly site. They're a book publisher. I wouldn't start a search for Tcl/Tk at Addison Wesley either. (OK, O'Reilly is running the Perl conference; Usenix runs the annual Tcl conference and there have been 6 of those. I probably wouldn't start at usenix.org looking for Tcl ports). Maybe that's just me. Would other people start such a search at oreilly.com? Has O'Reilly become that synonymous with Perl? > At CPAN, the Mac neither receives better or worse treatment than any > other OS, in terms of publicity. It's _there_, in the /ports directory, The CPAN is far more than a set of directories. I'm told Amiga is no longer under the ports directory; presence under the /ports directory can be interpreted in several ways. > and what more can you ask for? Now that's the real question, isn't it? I can ask for exactly what I asked for originally, which is all I ever really wanted: for Mac OS to not have been left out of the second sentence below and for MacOS to be included in such statements. > Perl builds and runs on a bewildering number of platforms. Regardless of how trivial or nontrivial that might be to accomplish. And regardless of what was "meant" by the statement in the first place. (If he "meant" builds out of the box, that isn't what he said). As for all the rest of the ensuing discussion, I seem to have created a monster. It's interesting to note that it's easily the most popular discussion we've had in a while. Apparently, I pushed some buttons. :-) --- Vicki Brown, vlb@cfcl.com |\ _,,,---,,_ Journeyman Sourceror ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ Scripts & Philtres |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' http://www.cfcl.com/~vlb '---''(_/--' `-'\_) P.O.
