Assuming you're talking about a Quadra 630, I don't think there's a version of FreeBSD available. In fact, (if I remember correctly - someone please help me if I don't) I think FreeBSD is strictly x86 as part of its mission. For 68k Macs, more or less your only alternatives for Unix are OpenBSD m68k, NetBSD m68k, Linux m68k (I think this is still in pretty early development), or snagging an old copy of A/UX. With the exception of Linux m68k, I don't know that any of the above are still particularly well maintained (certainly not A/UX ;)), at least not the way that the PPC Linuxes (linuxppc and mklinux) are. If you can find FreeBSD for m68k or PPC, I'd love to know. Anyway, one of the better resources for finding Unix flavors for Mac is: http://web.espy.org/apple-flavored-unix/ For my two cents' worth, running MkLinux on a PPC is great (no mucking around with Open Firmware, a la LinuxPPC), and serves as a great Unix Perl development box. Running XEmacs is the next best thing to BBEdit. --------------------------------- Jeffrey Carl Director of M**keting, ServInt Internet Services (703) 847-1381 voice (703) 847-1383 fax "Another journalism major enters the workforce..." -Dilbert --------------------------------- ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
