Actually, under 8.5, there's now a folder called "Application Support" in the System Folder. A MacPerl folder in there would be very 8.5 savvy - particularly if there's a good way to register with the Finder what kinds of MacPerl files should get put there (like maybe a type code). So, "site-perl" would be ":System Folder:Application Support:MacPerl:site-perl".
