Just a quick note:

* I have done DHCP (different addresses at the same time) on the Mac OS
side and the VPC side.  I believe it "just worked" because DHCP uses client
IDs, so it did not matter if the MAC address was the same, if the client ID
was different.  You can make your Mac use a different client ID than the
default, too.

* I use VPC 3 now, and just use the same IP address for the Mac and VPC.
