In fairness, whatever you like about having it on the mailing list (convenience, etc.) would not change if the current ML were linked to a newsgroup; you could still receive the list via e-mail, while others could choose to browse it via a news reader. And a newsgroup -- since it would be moderated -- would have the capability for as much or more control against spam and unwanted messages/posters as is currently available in the list. I am not going to continue this discussion further except to clarify or answer questions people might have.
