My mail from Matthias from back when we were putting "the book" together indicates that MacPerl 5 does not run on the 68000 chip (that's not the M68K chipset but the literal 68000, i.e., the Mac Plus). I have reworded the FAQ to make this more clear: ---- MacPerl runs on any Macintosh, including both m68K-based machines and PowerMacintosh models. (Only MacPerl version 4 will run on the 68000 chipset, i.e. the MacPlus). You'll need at least 4 MB of RAM and System 7 or above to run MacPerl version 5 or later. Also, to run MacPerl 5 on a 68K machine, you'll need to install a special version of the appliation. The alternatives are the "Big" application and the"CFM68K" application. "CFM68K" should be supported on all 68030 or 68040 Macintosh models running System 7.6.1 or later. If you have a 68020 (Mac II or SE) or are using earlier System Software (e.g. 7.1 or 7.5), install the "Big" application. ---- Yes, I realize that you can probably install various extensions into 7.5 to allow the CFM68K stuff to work but I didn't want to get into that at the time. That belongs in the READMEs with the Installation (I think). But if someone wants to volunteer to send more explicit wording (tested!) I'll put it in ;-) - Vicki --- Vicki Brown, vlb@cfcl.com |\ _,,,---,,_ Journeyman Sourceror ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ Scripts & Philtres |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' http://www.cfcl.com/~vlb '---''(_/--' `-'\_) P.O.
