If you don't know, you don't need it. MPW is the Macintosh Programmers Workbench. It's big. My MPW directory is over 40 MB. But if you really want to have a command line, you might want to install MPW; it's command-line oriented. I'll warn you though; it's just enough like Unix to be confusing if you know Unix, just enough like Unix to be confusing if you're used to the Mac. But it _can_ be very useful. And it's now freely available from Apple's ftp site: ftp:ftp.apple.com/devworld/Tool_Chest/Core_Mac_OS_Tools/ (There is basic getting started info on MPW Perl in MacPerl: Power and Ease as well as a walkthrough the standard installation process :-) You didn't say what kind of Mac you've got, PowerPC or (old) 68K. bigappl is 68K only _and_ is to be installed over top of (after) the regular appl distribution. See the MacPerl Readme (README.MAC) for details.
