That's a reasonable, if pessimistic, viewpoint. I personally develop on a pair of 8100/100's that are well past the point of obsolete and will not run OS X. If OS X looks like a winner (and I do really think that it will), I will pop for a G4 and sail on; in any case, I will keep one of my current work machines on MacOS and the other on mkLinux.
