[MacPerl] MacPerl/BBEdit - how to stop a script?

hello.

I have a small anomaly (well, size isn't important, right?) when using
BBEdit with MacPerl. if, on running a script and having MacPerl (latest
versions of both programmes, BTW) execute it, if I decide to terminate the
script, I can't, without considerable difficulty.

I have to force quit BBEdit (comand period doesn't work), and then I have
to go to the file->stop script in MacPerl - command period does not work
there either.

is there any way for the two programmes to be synched, so that a 'quit'
event has effect in both programmes?

I realise this is also concerned with BBEdit, but I can't sort out which
programme is the root of the programme.

any confirmation of this as being unruly behaviour/ something I'm missing /
some way to fix this greatly appreaciated.

best
