Well, the site is beta.  I am not so concerned with performance yet.

The reason why performance is bad is because it is sitting on a computer
under my desk at work (a PIII/450, but not on a line designed for serving),
but sometime in the next few weeks it will go to a colocation facility with
a T3 and multiple machines for web serving, database, and backend programs.

Much too much technology for the need, but it will be shared with a few
other sites that also don't need nearly that amount of technology.  :-)  We
already have the machines set up and working, but they need more testing
and setup for some other things.
