Image that people are able to manage real big projects with CVS
(Linux). This is only possible by providing a wealth of features.

You simply work on your own set of files. Locking is not neccessary.
When you commit your local changes CVS cares for resolving concurrent
updates. It merges them.

Try to get a local CVS client. You would need a Linux or NT machine
as server and read through a very thorough documentation.
